ITP Accredited Instructor Training Provider Seal

Who is ITP?
Independent Third Party (ITP) is exactly what it claims to be, an independent third party assessor and accreditor of Training and Professional Certification Providers.  ITP offers three kinds of accreditations:

  • Accredited Training Provider
  • Accredited Certification Provider
  • Accredited Instructor Training Provider*

        *Formerly Train-the-Trainer Accredited Organzation

Accredited Training Provider:

ITP Accredited Training Providers are professional training organizations that have successfully completed a rigorous review of their training content to ensure:

  • A standard Body of Knowledge that aligns to advertised training objectives
  • Individually-defined knowledge elements, complete with required taxonomy level for training
  • Clear linkage between knowledge elements and training curricula
  • Taxonomically appropriate delivery methods for higher taxonomy knowledge elements ("application" and "expertise" training levels)
  • Internally consistent training order (that is, higher complexity training must either require appropriate prerequisite training, or deliver appropriate foundational materials prior to trainer how to combine concepts)
  • Validation of knowledge transfer through comprehensive and taxonomically appropriate examination or practicum
  • Voice-of-the-Customer surveys and feedback methods from students and client organizations
  • A standardized approach to continuous improvement aligned to industry standards, customer feedback, or some other standardized methodology (Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, PDCA, etc.)

Accredited Training Providers receive either Provisional, Annual, or Multi-Year Accreditation, a certificate of Accreditation, and authorization to display the ITP Accredited Training Provider seal on websites and training certificates.

Accredited Certification Provider:

ITP Accredited Certification Providers are organizations that offer professional certifications that validate professional competence.  This differs from simple academic training, which can be validated through written examination (see Accredited Training Provider, above).  In order to earn accreditation as a professional certification provider, organizations must complete a rigorous review of their certification standards to ensure:

  • A standard Body of Knowledge that aligns to advertised certification objectives
  • Individually-defined knowledge elements, complete with required taxonomy level for award of certification
  • Validation of professional knowledge through comprehensive and taxonomically appropriate examination or practicum
  • Validation of professional competence through pre-defined, appropriate, and validated application of requisite professional skills
  • Voice-of-the-Customer surveys and feedback methods from students and client organizations
  • A standardized approach to continuous improvement aligned to industry standards, customer feedback, or some other standardized methodology (Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, PDCA, etc.)

Accredited Certification Providers receive either Provisional, Annual, or Multi-Year Accreditation, a certificate of Accreditation, and authorization to display the ITP Accredited Certification Provider seal on websites and training certificates.

Accredited Instructor Training Provider:

ITP Accredited Instructor Training Providers (formerly known as Train-the-Trainer or TtT Accredited Organizations) must meet all of the requirements of Accredited Training Providers for a Train-the-Trainer training curricula.  In addition, AITPs must also demonstrate standards for ensuring instructor professional competence (education, certification(s), and/or experience), as well as a formal methodology for observing and assessing instructors in their delivery of the required training program.  AITP Accreditation does allow for equivalency acceptance (for example, individuals with formal instructor training through other organizations), but equivalencies must be clearly defined and validated.

Accredited Instructor Training Providers receive either Provisional, Annual, or Multi-Year Accreditation, a certificate of Accreditation, and authorization to display the ITP Accredited Trainer Training Provider seal on websites and training certificates.

Why use ITP?
With the advent of the internet, nearly anyone can claim to provide professional training or certification programs... and this is a good thing.

But, if you're looking to find high-quality training or a legitimate professional certification, how do you know the real deal from the fly-by-night diploma mills?  One way is to talk with people who have used a particular vendor before.  A better way is to check with us.  Our professional staff is trained in the unique kind of curriculum development required for high-taxonomy learning -- application-based learning that goes beyond head-knowledge to true professional competence.  This means hands-on, scenario-driven training that lets students not just absorb head knowledge, but to walk out of the classroom ready to apply what they have learned. In short, ITP Accredited Training Providers are the White Collar versions of trade schools, while ITP Accredited Certification Providers are the White Collar equivalent of Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master programs.  For more information, contact us at info@itpaccreditors.org.
